David Koren's Playwriting Work
If you're unfamiliar with my plays, you may want to start small. No
More Beets is a good intro to my work.
The Corps(e) of
Discovery
a full-length play (approx. 2 hours)
A contempory, multi-media retelling of the story of Lewis
& Clark, told using a variety of modern styles and genres from
television, film, and theatre.
The Birth of
Something Nasty
a screenplay
The employees and other denizens of a record store are forced
to
contend with change, birth, and parasitic infestation.
A Bloated Sense
of Self
Importance
a full-length play (approx. 2 hours)
A corrupt consulting company in a claustrophic Midtown
Manhattan
office explodes when the secrets of its owners are revealed.
The Connoisseur
of Chaos
a full-length play (approx. 2 hours)
A young man returns to a dance club eight years after it has
closed
to find three strange but familiar women sitting, eating pizza, and
worshipping
an absent god.
The Falling
Moon
A comedy on serious themes for young audiences (60
minutes)
Three princes must stop a senseless war in order to save the
world
from being destroyed by a suicidal moon.
Quazimodo!
A tragedy with jokes, based on Hugo's Notre Dame de
Paris (70
minutes)
A modern, anachronistic adaptation of the Hunchback. The
gargoyles
talk, but they don't sing or dance. Nothing like Disney.
The Heir to the
Throne
A full-length play (80-90 minutes)
My first play, about a man who cannot contend with the
confusing
mess his life and the modern world has become. Expressionistic.
Other Works
Short plays and monologues, including No More Beets,
Mushkin,
Shopping at Colonus, and Cruel Theatre.
