I'm nearly bored, and I'm excited about it. The last three years have been relentless. In 2003, I wrote a full-length play (The Corps(e) of Discovery) and my non-fiction book (The Architect's Essentials of Marketing), and I bought a big diamond and proposed to Smash. She accepted, and we spent 2004 looking at apartments, buying an apartment, renovating an apartment, and planning a wedding. Then, this year we got married and (finally!) moved into our new apartment. Now it's October. It's back to school time. We've been in our apartment for four months. We've run out of money for furniture. And there's nothing else to do.
What now? I ask myself. Is there some new project on the horizon? What's my next book going to be about?
That said, it's not like work has been particularly quiet (it's been nuts) and it's not like I don't have lots to do as president of the SMPS NY Chapter. But I've found in the past that having some project or interest to occupy my brain or hands in the off-hours makes my life more exciting, more interesting, and even makes me more engaged and better at my day job.
So I'm looking for what's next. Let me know if you have any ideas.
